The USS Hatteras broke free from the blockading squadron off the coast of Galveston upon receiving reports that the CSS Alabama was in the area. In a move of sheer audacity, the CSS Alabama engaged in combat with the USS Hatteras in spite of being outnumbered in the area off of the Galveston coast by the US Navy in a ratio of more than 6 to 1. Through skill, daring, and sheer luck, the CSS Alabama engaged and defeated the USS Hatteras. Upon hearing from prisoners, taken as a result of the US ship's sinking, that the US invasion fleet was not going to be attacking Galveston, the decision was made to return to Brazil. In late January and early February of 1863, deciding that the US Navy would begin major efforts to stop the Confederate raider's operations, Captain Semmes decided to take the ship to another area of operations. The next leg of the CSS Alabama's career would take it to the shores of South Africa and the East Indies.

History of the CSS Alabama Early in 1862, John Laird Sons and Company of Liverpool, England, began construction of hull number 290, which would launch as the SS Enrica. Actually, the ship was one that would become one of the most feared ships in the history of naval warfare. John Laird Sons and Company were actually building the CSS Alabama. This ship under the capable command of Captain Rafael Semmes would inflict serious damage on the merchant fleet of the United States during the American Civil War. In August of 1862 the ship was delivered to the Confederate Navy and the command of Captain Semmes in the Azores, after she slipped through the efforts of US Secret Service agents to stop her sailing from Liverpool, England. There in the Azores, the Confederate Navy had arranged for the ship to receive her armaments. She was armed with one 110 pound cannon and one 68 pound cannon that were mounted in fore and aft swivel mounts on the deck. In addition to this the CSS Alabama mounted an armament of six 32 pound cannon along her port and starboard sides.

Building a Basic CSS Menu This tutorial will show you how to set up a CSS menu on your website. It will attempt to explain everything involved in the process, including things you probably know. It's going to be straightforward and as jargon-less as possible. For starters we should set up the links which we will use in the navigation. For simplicity's sake, let's use "Home" "About Us" and "Contact" for our links. flex css Truly speaking, I am very inspired with the increased and widespread use CSS3. It is more useful than HTML5 in practical terms. It provides us a high level of flexibility when it comes to PSD to HTML, PSD to XHTML or PSD to HTML5. We all use CSS3 to style web pages written in markup languages - HTML, XHTML and HTML5. But, there are few things about CSS3 framework which frustrates me a lot. Let's take a look 1) Tags One thing that many developers hate most about CSS3 is that it revolves around the sheer volume of new tags. It is very difficult to remember all tags, recall the values and learn all background gradient, border image options to convert PSD to CSS3 properly. And so you need to refer online manuals again and again to keep everything on right tracks. 2) Vendor prefixes It is one thing which give a real pain to mainly developers. Truly speaking, I have a love-hate relationship with vendor prefixes. I personally don't like them much because prefixes are not very developer-friendly.
